The main problem, is that gender is continuously classified as "male" and "female", when those terms would be more correct to classify sex.  As gender is defined by how the society views you, it is commonly categorized into "masculine" and "feminine".  There are obviously, more than simply two, but these are the ones more commonly labeled.
